Construction has wrapped up on The Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Factory’s 500sf addition to expand the processing and storage space. The factory’s success has led to a higher product output that the original building was designed for. Women Around Noon get Entertained!
The Prince Edward County group of active and retired business women, Women Around Noon, were treated to a wonderful day of architectural tours and spectacular food yesterday. The 55 women were given a tour of Cressy House by architect Francis Lapointe. (Re) Source Pavilion (nearly) finished!
The majority of the strapping and roofing of the pavilion was completed after three days of extensive work by the volunteers. The installation of the 'leftover' metal roofing and cedar shingles when as planned, except for some minor changes. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough shingles to complete the roofing so the group will return in a few weeks to complete their task. The project will be featured in an exhibition at Toronto's Harbourfront Centre in early June. Stay tuned f


(Re) Source Pavilion structure completed!
The structural elements of the (re) source pavilion have been completed over the past weekend. The pavilion is being built by a group of local and student volunteers who have an interest in sustainable architecture. The mature ash logs were harvested directly on the site and erected using ropes and pulleysthen a backhoe. Connections were made using threaded dowels and Band-it, a stainless steel banding system used primarily to fasten equipment to hydro poles. #FifthTownCheese


Fifth Town Wins Premier's Award
The Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Company has been awarded the Ontario Premier's Agri-Food Innovation Excellence award, a $2.5 million, five-year program (now in its third year) established to recognize innovators who contribute to the success of Ontario's agri-food sector. The top prize, worth $100,000, was awarded to Fifth Town for its "work in using green technology to construct the largest artisan goat and sheep milk cheese manufacturing facility in eastern Ontario."
