Arts and Craft house

Caledon, Ontario

This multi-generational house relies heavily on arts and craft architectural features reinterpreted for contemporary use. Angular lines are softened by curves in the windows including the stain glass patterns, the walls of the upper hallway and diagonal brackets strengthening the posts and beams of exterior porches. An existing birch tree shades the large south facing windows saving energy. At the rear of the house, a naturalized swimming pond forms the hub of outdoor family activities, defined on the east by the sunken sports pavilion and on the west by small waterfall with a toddler beach.
