Kickinghorse Mountain Chalet,
Golden, British Columbia
This vacation residence is located on a slope of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, a landscape that has been defined by adventure, majestic and rugged nature, and a regulated resort architecture that conveys the elegant and rustic style of the early 20th Century Arts and Crafts movement. The design reinterprets this “National Parks Style”, establishing a chalet that is a compliment to the surrounding context, while integrating contemporary elements and technologies. To accommodate the needs of two families, the plan integrates collective living spaces for large family activities and social gatherings, with two private master suites of differing character – one offering optimal views of the mountains, and the other providing birds-eye-views of the valley.
