Construction Starts on FifthTown

Construction has started on the proposed Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Factory (http://www.fifthtown.ca/) in Prince Edward County Ontario. The contract was awarded to K. Knudsen Construction of Belleville ON. The cheese factory has been designed to the LEED Platinum criteria, and promises to the be 'greenest' industrial facility in Canada. The building incorporates several green features including a ground source heat pump, a rain water collection cistern, a large amount of reclaimed and recycled building materials and walls built of Durisol (http://www.durisol.com/). The most unique feature of the building are the cheese aging caves, which are buried underground. Construction should be be completed by early 2008.
